Gurinder Chadha OBE Filmmaker

The clock struck twelve and it was time to bid good-bye to Gurinder. ‘I wish you good-luck,’ she said as I walked down the stairs where Bicky Singh’s office truck waited for me. It was an end to a great script, and her last lines kept ringing in my ears for days—‘I think the reason I have the drive, is ultimately about racism. It’s about finding ways to diminish the impact of difference.’

The above piece has been extracted from the interviewer’s book Sikhs Unlimited published in 2005. Post Bride and Prejudice, Gurinder Chadha went on to direct Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging in the year 2008, which was followed by the comedy, It’s a Wonderful Afterlife in 2010. Gurinder’s latest film is Viceroy’s House, a partition drama that hit the screens worldwide in 2017.
